About the Director
Chow Hin Yeung Roy 周顯揚, born in 1978, is a renowned film director, screenwriter, producer and curriculum / learning designer. In 2013, he won the Best New Director award at the 32nd Hong Kong Film Awards and the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild for his feature film “NIGHTFALL” 大追捕. He is considered as the most innovative, stylized, and acclaimed new generation of film directors in Hong Kong / China. He was mentored by respected film producer BILL KONG 江志強and two-time Academy Award-winning director ANG LEE李安. He has 25 years of experience in the Film/ Digital Media/ Production industry. In 2017, he was awarded the “MEN of 2017” by JMEN.
Biography
In the year of 2000, while Roy was still in university, he started to work for Bill Kong’s Edko Films Ltd., a leading film company in Asia, which later produced international blockbuster films like Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and Zhang Yimou’s “Hero”. He spent many years tightly collaborating with the respected producer Bill Kong, Over the years, Roy served as Mr. Kong’s Head of Development, Producer’s Assistant and Script Developer, assisting him in developing film projects and participating in film production.
Between 2006 and 2007, Chow had the opportunity to work as a Personal Assistant and Researcher for the Oscar-winning, Golden Globes winning and Golden Lion winning Director Ang Lee 李安, with script analysis/research work involved. This experience provided him with invaluable insights into the international industry.
In Mar 2007, Chow was promoted as the Head of Development 發展總監 for Edko Films 安樂影片. He contributed to many major productions not only within the Asia, but also internationally. His responsibilities ranged from project development, pre-production, script development, producing teaser trailer and film promotion. (Productions includes acclaimed films such as Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Lust, Caution, Jet li’s Fearless, My Sassy Girl (Korea Movie) Curse of the Golden Flower, Secret, “BLOOD: The Last Vampire” (US, France), True Legend and more.

I am one of the few professional film directors with a solid academic background in Education and curriculum design. This unique combination allows me to bridge the gap between film directing practice and education.
